Heartlines: Heaven Beside You (Limerick Demo)

Description

After a strange event in 1952 causes time to bend and stretch, physical structures from the past and future regularly converge onto the present moment. In 2008, it happens again-- present-day people start to go missing, and time travelers take their place. Creatures called Aberrations begin to roam sparsely populated areas, born from souls trapped in time. 

Tess Okeke is fourteen when she wakes up to an empty house. The Limerick Demo is a single-player exploration adventure RPG that follows Tess and her two companions as they embark on a search for her missing mother, discovering untold secrets about her family and the world around them. 

Heartlines: Heaven Beside You (Limerick Demo) is the first larger-scale game development project set in the world of Heartlines. 

Objectives

• Play as three characters, each with their own distinctive set of abilities.
• Explore Limerick to learn more about the changed landscape.
• Complete puzzles by collecting items.

About the Game Development

Heartlines: Heaven Beside You (Limerick Demo) was made in about three and half weeks, meant to focus on storytelling and narrative design. I started by writing a narrative design document and developing the storyworld that would become Heartlines. Then, I planned out the levels on paper, made 2d art assets in Procreate, and began to teach myself Godot. I learned a lot about scope with this project; I was super passionate about my ideas and wanted to bring multiple complicated game mechanics to fruition quickly, causing gameplay to be rather clunky because I had to forgo refining systems in order to implement everything I wanted to add.
